Mini Equine Session Guide
My favorite tips + tricks to make sure you get the most out of your mini session!
Due to the nature of Mini Sessions, it is very important to be camera ready before the start of your session. If you session is 5:00-5:30 we will be shooting right at 5:00, so please be fully dressed + tacked up to start promptly on time. Arriving late or having delays will cut into your session time. If you think you may not make your scheduled time slot, please notify me as soon as possible. Reschedule availability is not guaranteed without proper notice.
How To Prepare Your Horse:
Most importantly, exercise your horse to the point of them being very tired within 2-3 hours of our session. Horses ALWAYS perk up during shoots and a tired horse not only helps keep you safe, it will increase the amount of poses and images we can get!
-Make sure horses are freshly bathed + clean
-Groom your horse the same as you would before you enter your class
-Avoid using too much face shine (baby oil is preferred)
-Make sure all tack is assembled + clean before our session
-Double check that halters/headstalls fit properly before our session
If you are switching tack during our session, be sure to bring it along to our location for quick changes.
How To Prepare Yourself:
Pro tip: get your horse fully ready THEN do your hair and makeup. Tie your horse in front of a hay bag and they’ll be a happy camper waiting for you to come back!
-Mini Sessions only allow us to photograph one outfit, but adding a jacket or hat can easily change up your look
-Make sure clothing fits properly and looks good from all angles

-Avoid neon colors and clothing with large logos or wording
My favorite stores for clients to shop at >>
Black, Grey, Blue Roan + White Horses
look best against bright colors
Bay, Chestnut, Sorrel + Red Roan Horses
look best against soft earthy tones
Palomino, Buckskin + Dun Horses
look great with any colors
Posing + Photo Ideas:
Please don’t stress at all about posing! I will guide you through our session and tell you exactly where to place your hands, move your feet and where to look. I have and endless amount of ideas at each session, so don’t worry about needing to come up with any ideas on your own! My images are a mix of signature poses that flatter you + your horse as well as “go with the flow” type posing as I see it happening during our shoot.
If you do have ideas or posing requests, let me know before we start shooting! I love knowing if there are specific images you’re hoping for and will always try my best to make those happen for you.
